How can I apply for support?

Funding Criteria

Funding Criteria Summary

01.

Strategic Value of the Case

Does your case have broader relevance for the trans*, inter* and non-binary community? Could it positively influence existing laws or regulations?

02.

Existential Threat

Are you in a severely precarious situation (e.g. facing homelessness, deportation, or severe psychological distress)?

03.

Severity of Basic Rights Violation

Is your case about a serious violation of your basic rights? The more severe, the more likely support will be approved.

04.

Multiple Marginalization

Do you experience additional forms of discrimination (e.g. based on race, disability, social background)? This is given special consideration.

05.

Chances of Success

Is your case legally well-founded with realistic chances of success?

06.

Financial Need

Can you not afford legal representation without support? The fund doesn’t scrutinize your income in detail, but it matters whether you could proceed without help.

07.

Willingness to Pursue Long-Term Legal Action

Are you prepared to see the process through, even if it takes years?

08.

Cost-Benefit Ratio

Are the expected legal costs proportionate to the significance of the case?

09.

Partial Repayment Upon Success

If your case is successful and you receive compensation, you’re asked to repay part of it to the fund so it can help others in the future.

What Costs Are Covered?

Court Fees

For legal proceedings (e.g. name and gender marker changes, discrimination cases).

Attorney and Legal Consultation Fees

If you can’t afford a lawyer, the fund may cover these costs.

Expert Opinion Costs

If you need a medical or psychological report, the fund may cover it.

Translation and Interpretation

If your case requires translation or interpretation services.

Other Essential Costs

E.g. travel expenses or copying fees related to your case.

What Is Not Covered?

If you’re unsure whether your request can be funded, it’s worth simply asking. The fund exists to support you when financial barriers stand in your way.

Living expenses

... or general financial support (e.g. rent, food, clothing)

Medical procedures or therapy

No relevant connection

Cases without a chance of success or that don’t directly relate to gender self-determination.

How is your application evaluated?

Once your application is received, it’s reviewed by the trustee in collaboration with the board. They assess several criteria to make a fair and transparent decision.
