Donations
The Fund for Gender Self-Determination (FGS) exists because trans, intersex, and non-binary people repeatedly face major legal obstacles—often involving enormous costs. Many affected individuals cannot afford these legal proceedings or are afraid of the financial risks.
This is where the fund comes in: it enables them to defend themselves and assert their right to self-determination. But this is only possible if there are sufficient financial resources.

General Information
The allocation of funds is carried out according to the criteria of the Fund for Gender Self-Determination and in coordination between the trustee, Dr. Katrin Giere, and the independent advisory committee. If you wish to donate for a specific purpose only — for example, for a particular group, a single campaign, or a specific procedure — this must be indicated as the payment reference. For larger donations or if you have questions about the allocation of funds, we ask that you contact us at spenden[at]fonds-selbstbestimmt.de.
The administrative costs incurred in managing the fund are covered by donations. We estimate these costs at up to 15% of the total donations.
Donors may request reimbursement of their contributions (minus administrative costs) from the trustee as long as the funds have not yet been used for their designated purpose. Older donations are always spent first. If the purpose specified at the time of donation ceases to exist, we will use the donation for another purpose in accordance with the criteria of the Fund for Gender Self-Determination and taking into account the discontinued purpose.
The Fund for Gender Self-Determination is not recognized as a charitable organization under the German Fiscal Code (Abgabenordnung). We are therefore unable to issue donation receipts for tax purposes.
